Attendance

Our program uses TimeStation to keep track of days and arrival/departure times. It's great! We then transport the data to create "paychecks" which coincides with bill paying/rent/etc. It's a great visual for the interns to see what future finances can look like.
With managing attendance, we follow the most strict policy. This happens to be our host business location. It is very beneficial because we mimic the work setting and use it as a real learning experience. When attendance/tardies become an issue we follow what our program(employee) handbook has in place. These include informal warning, verbal warnings, write ups...and if it continues, we have team meetings with the program staff to determine interventions. When all options are exhausted, we look at determining if our placement is the right fit.
The number of allowed absences are 6. However, if the intern misses 2 days, etc. consecutively, it counts as 1 absence. |

Small Hospital Internships

Congrats on your year! I am not sure if you thought of this, but see if your business liaison can approve flyers to place in department mailboxes. That might draw more attention and awareness to the program and how it can be a win-win for everyone. Our hospital is big, but maybe I can help you think of ideas. Our interns have had success in the pediatrics/NICU/PICU, imaging departments, stat stores (where we store hospital supplies, assemble crash carts, cycle counts), dock/receiving, linen, ER, house keeping, and transporting. These are just some ideas from more of the common hospital departments. If you would like suggestions on what interns can do in these departments, feel free to reach out Kcurby@sased.org. |
