Would anyone be interested in learning about what a medication list is and how adults could use it when at a medical appointment or in an emergency situation? (Self-Advocating)

COVID-19-Ways to Engage Interns

My Project SEARCH Interns were on Spring Break and have not been able to return to their internships. So, we have been meeting via Zoom daily 8:30-10:30. We meet/work on a lesson for 45 minutes, take a 15 minute break and then for for 45 minutes. We are continuing on things that we were working on prior to Spring Break. I am still having the Interns clock in and out using the Time Station App on their phones. My skills trainer is monitoring their time and creating their "paychecks". They do have "direct deposit", so when we meet via zoom we talk about how it needs to be added to their check register/ledger. We had been going to the Wellness Center throughout the year, so we discussed how to continue doing this and what days to do this. We are doing this twice a week for the last 30-45 minutes.

My expectations for Zoom were shared with the Interns prior to using Zoom (I am teaching how I expect other professionals to meet via zoom). Everyone needs to be dressed in clean, business casual clothing, hair brushed, teeth brushed and deodorant on. No one can eat while we are meeting, but they can have something to drink. Everyone needs to participate. We did talk about why someone may shut the camera off while we are meeting (ie. blow his/her nose, coughing and can't stop, needs to take a break, someone is in the room and talking to them, etc.). The first day we practiced on using Zoom and everyone shared something on their screen that I knew if we were at York General he/she would share with the group sometime during the week (ie. a joke, a picture of a cute dog, etc.).

Keeping Skills Trainer Engaged

The question has been asked - what is being done to keep Skills Trainers Engaged.

My Skills Trainer, myself and our Interns are all at our individual homes. We all have access to technology were we can get our Project SEARCH email and Zoom.

My Skills Trainer is an hourly staff member, there are things that she can do (and needs to be done) and I want her to continue earning a wage. At this time I am having my skills trainer do the following things:

  • She is maintaining the "pay roll" of the Interns - they are paid every other week with "direct deposit" that she sets up and sends to them
  • She set up a "Forgot to clock in or out" google form for the Interns to complete when they forget to clock in or out
  • I had her create a visual to use with the Interns on downloading TimeStation to their phones so they can continue to clock in and out
  • She marks off on a google sheets when Interns have wrote checks for various monthly bills
  • She is participating in a Para-Educator ASD Training that was shared (this is from Autism and Tertiary Behavior Supports)
  • She is working with an Intern via Zoom planning for Autism Awareness Day (this is a group effort, just an intern has a specific task and needed help with this individually)
  • We will have a Zoom meeting for ESU 6 staff later in the week that she will join
  • She joins us via zoom for our Project SEARCH class time

I email additional tasks that I need done to her. If there is a deadline then I also give that to her, but try to allow a few days in case there is technology difficulties (she is at home and does not have the best internet).
