Security as an internship?

We have a supportive security staff at St Francis in Wichita. We found that one task that is essential to their job is reviewing video to support various claims. These claims include theft, elopement, accidents, and other issues that are supported by video surveillance. When an incident occurs within a several-hour period it takes an immense number of man hours to review available video for snippets of evidence. We were given access to the video feed and provided "cases" to investigate. When we found evidence we then created a video file of the specific incident and delivered it to the security department. This job was developed for one of our wheelchair users who had a sharp eye and an ability to sit for hours reviewing video. We do not currently have an intern for this, but it is still available for the right person.
We also helped develop a smoother Lost and Found experience for patients as this area was neglected with no one taking ownership. However, once we created the system the support requirements were not enough to support an intern.

COVID-19-Ways to Engage Interns

WE are still on the dark though I reached out to our liaison and let her know that we would suggest pulling away from our direct patient care positions.
Our other positions are with very needed positions due to personnel cuts in labs, food service and infection control. At this writing our child card position is still available. Since we are on spring break and we do not know if the schools are closing this may all be moot.
I think we are all a bit dazed by the fluidity of the moment and the waiting.

One proactive plan with my principal is that we have classroom space at the school if the hospital closes to us. We may be able to move an intern or 2 to our sister site, and we are already working at getting 2 interns hired by the host in areas that may require quicker response in support. The lab handles both blood and tissue samples and I believe they are going to be busy if they get approval to start testing for the new virus. Also our infection control position is one that may need to ramp up due to the exposure of vulnerable populations and the efficacy of the program on HAI's

The Post-Secondary Goal may or may not change with the rotation experiences throughout the Project SEARCH year. We find that some interns have tangible opportunities that require some support within the community outside of the host business. These opportunities are ones we develop with the cooperating business as a training opportunity for them and a high-value opportunity for the intern. The plus side is that our staff support is minimal while the intern (and family) experience the responsibility of the job.
