In Ontario, we are still under self-isolation restrictions and are planning our virtual meetings to interview and select our next group of Project Search Interns...... does anyone have applicable questions to ask, advice, tips? We're open to suggestions. Thanks you! Lisa

Hi Lisa! Great question smile Hoping you get some good responses here. You should also look at the thread for "PS Skills Assessment Substitute" under "Program Operations During COVID-19," and also the thread for "New Intern Interviews" under the "Ways to Engage Interns during COVID-19" topic.

Good afternoon Project SEARCH Family.
Im a Liaison in Miami, FL with the City of Miami's Parks Department. We just finished a series of interviews using zoom. It was a huge learning experience for everyone involved and I was able to discover pros and cons. We used the rubric but had to combine some of the questions such as transportation and be more flexible on criteria such as attire and body language since we really couldn't gauge them entirely, only what then screen allowed. We also faced technical challenges in the not every family was able to log on so there we had them call in.
You need to be flexible with the interview in the sense that we had the parent and student sit together. We tried having them leave the room to interview them separate but ran into delays so decided against it to preserve time. You also have to have a strong moderator or person that will lead the interviews or it can get pretty confusing. Another great aspect is that you get to see more of the home dynamics when the students are at home.. one interview was very telling and revealed that the applicant needed much more assistance than what Project SEARCH Model offers and that this person needed to apply at a later time and another program all together to prepare them for the demands we have in place, especially since now there are many more guideline and restrictions that we all have to adhere to...I hope this helps and will I will be happy to offer any guidance. Feel free to call me at (786) 877- 7929, send me text messages or leave a voicemail if I don't pick up.
Take great care - Rafael Abreu - City of Miami.
