Hello,
I'm looking to hear from any programs that have interns at 2 sites.
Our host site is Halton Healthcare - under this umbrella there are three hospitals all within 30 minutes of each other. Our classroom and internships are at the main Oakville site however one of the hospitals down the road approx. 30 minutes has two internship opportunities. I'm looking to hear from anyone who has tried this.
Thank you.
Lisa

We have interns currently at 3 sites, however, all are within the same healthcare system and are no more than 4 miles from one another. We have one working in occupational health and another at the hospital print shop. We are taking turns observing and meeting their needs at the offsite location.

In your case with it being 30 minutes away, I'd be concerned with travel time lost. I would try to set a schedule where everyone alternates days and travel so that there is a more comprehensive view of the intern and their progress/ needs.

I see you posted this in November, what did you guys decide to do? How are you handling it??

Hi there,
We decided against travelling 30 minutes away. We're going to keep all our interns under one roof especially during all the covid restrictions. Thanks for your feedback -much appreciated.

Under normal conditions, here at Dow Freeport, we have rotations scattered out over Dow's entire facility which stretches for over 15 miles from end to end. It is part of our normal routine. Our daily schedule looks a little different as well because most employees at Dow either work four 10 hour days or they have every other Friday off. For that reason, under normal circumstances, our interns would go directly to their rotations right after they arrive at our classroom Mon - Thurs and then we spend all day Friday in the classroom. The beauty of it is, that it allows for us to do things like practice utilizing public transportation and participate in events sponsored by local support services and other community events/classes without having to worry about cramming things into an hour so that the interns can get to their rotations.
