I work at a hospital site in Michigan. This school year, our host business has moved us to working in their warehouse. Our interns have gotten to do a variety of things like picking items using handheld scanners, stocking items in the warehouse, putting stickers on patient charge items, and working on folding / packaging PPE gowns, masks, safety glasses, making COVID 19 test kits. We are also going to be working with the mailroom soon too.
We are meeting soon with our business liaison to talk about the potential to return to the hospital. I am aware from the different state meetings, flyers sent out and social media that some hospital sites are at their hospital. What areas are they working in? What guidelines are they working from? I'd be ok with working away from patients, I just want more opportunities for our interns.
I think there is enough potential to work together so that interns and PS staff can work at the hospital safely. Our interns also were able to get their COVID vaccines being volunteers. Our Project Search staff is going to all be vaccinated too soon.

Our interns are working in EVS, cafeteria, volunteer services, sterile processing, material management. We have not had any patient contact. We are in the hospital though. We are sterilizing the equipment for surgeries and putting together trays for surgeries in sterile processing. We are working in volunteer services doing whatever that may need to be done. We may be in the gift shop one day, blowing up balloons, putting gift bags together, etc. We are washing pots & pans, on the serving line, cleaning the tables in the cafeteria/ kitchen. In EVS, we are sanitizing and cleaning the hospital with exception of patient areas.
