Children's Mercy Hospital is now requiring all employees, volunteers and students to be vaccinated by Dec. 15, 2021. We have one family who does not want their child vaccinated. We are considering having the intern finish their first department rotation (ends Nov. 23). Then, starting job development and look for employment. Not idea, but best we can think of now. We are open to other ideas on how to handle this situation. Thank you!!

Sounds like a good alternative plan to me. If they are ready. Our host site does not require the COVID vaccine but may later. We have already heard some grumbling from parents about not getting the vaccine. We are also working toward job development and placement early for those ready to get a jump start on it case vaccine is required. Other alternative is they will have to return to their home high school for further training.

Our hospital site is requiring COVID vaccine. We lucked out. All of our interns are fully vaccinated. Our contingency plan was to first have our business liaison talk with the family about vaccines and refer them to talk with their doctors or other resources. If they still didn't want to get vaccinated offer to send them to another Project Search site in our city that does not require the COVID vaccine.

Our Bon Secours Mercy hospital is requiring the COVID vaccine as well. We have 2 students who have submitted religious exemptions, however, if they are not approved, we are unsure of our next move. They are not quite ready for job development and the parents are adamant about not having the interns vaccinated. We have no other PS sites in our town or county. Any thoughts?

Jeana, Our PS does not have an alternative site either. That is why our intern went straight to job development with VR and a job development coach.
