As of now, Maryland Schools are closed through April. Our high school and transition programs started online learning today. But, given that our host site (hospital) is cancelling their May events,I think we may be closed longer.

As of 03/13/2020, our school district is doing distance learning for the rest of the school year with all student work due and the student school year officially ending on 05/01/2020. With the school corporation directive of no person-to-person contact, and our Interns work site being a hospital, all student Interns are now at their homes.

So this is what is going on with us ......Schools in SC are closed thru April 30, rumor has it may be longer as we are expected to hit our peak in two weeks. Stay at home orders from the Governor. Our host site (Pickens SC) has cancelled all in patient admissions and only open for emergency/surgery. Current in patients have been transferred to other network hospitals in Greenville. Some employees furloughed. We are doing distant learning through assignment packets with our interns and contacting twice a week for updates on their conditions. My assistant and I are trying to complete their end of the year portfolios to give/send to them (working from home). If we do go back in May, we may not be able to return to our host site so we have arranged alternative placement at a near by Middle School location (they have a classroom and we will work with staff within the building). Job placement currently is a no go since no 1:1 contact, stay at home order. We have one intern working at a local Walmart but that was arranged prior to COVID 19 and he needed little coaching. VR is also not able to job coach due to COVID 19. We have interns for next year chosen but orientation will be later once we figure out what we are doing. Stay safe everyone !
