Parent Controlling Client's Debit Card

I am currently a long-term support provider to a young man who was hired at the host business. Money is tight in his household so his father decided to take his debit card from him. This young man lives at home and wants to help out but expressed, "It kind of feels like I am being taken advantage of." We are working on a few ways he can ask for control back of his debit card. He said two more pay periods, then he will ask for his debit card. I am trying to empower him with the correct language. One idea is determining a fixed budget for rent, utilities, and food that he will give to his family each month while staying in control of his debit card.
I want this to be a graceful transition where trust can still be established between his household and myself as his long-term support provider. I am afraid if I push too hard this young man will no longer share this information with me. Has anyone experienced this and has some advise? |
