Hello all,

What is the average amount of interns at hospital sites?

Ruth,
For school age funding 8-12. Sometimes there are fewer but usually the System funds the teacher and needs that number to continue earning funds year to year. smile

Is there a Unit Skills Mastery checkoff with the Units similar to the previous curriculum prior to the revision/revamp? Thanks!

Thanks Holly! I'll look at these also. One of our newest sites is looking for guidance for mentors as they get started. All advice is appreciated. Are any of our videos best suited for mentors?

Overcoming intern technology limitations

Hello all: We have found it increasingly difficult to plan web-based lesson enhancements due to the fact that our interns are using their school district issued laptops. Each SD has a different security protocol, which can make it impossible for some interns to access websites like Google Drive, which is the only way I know of to share and edit documents together in real time. I'm trying to convince our program sponsor (KenCrest) to supply used laptops or tablets to circumvent this issue. I've actually resorted to supplying interns with my own personal laptops (that I don't ordinarily use). Does any other PS site encounter this same problem and what do they do about it? Thanks in advance.

Mark,
Some of the larger business sites do supply laptops or tablets. Another thought would be asking a tech company to sponsor your interns or partner with your site. Grants can often fill the need also. You may also ask your SPED director to write it into the budget for the next year and supply tech support from the system technology person. It sounds like you have several SD involved so possibly you could get an agreement from them on your needed support.

Amanda,
You might consider sources for adding adults to Project SEARCH. Each system and State does interpret IDEA. Usually State guidance prevails for systems but there is some choice involved. In Georgia students are able to be served and earn FTE through the age of 22 while enrolled in school. Systems can decide if students can be served through their 22 year or if they need to leave when they turn 22 on their birthday. We pursued a CDS grant to start Adult Project SEARCH sites. Congressionally Directed Spending grant.

How do I join, or help my interns or former interns become members? We are in the process of developing our email list to build our membership roster. There are two ways to share intern information with the Alumni Association:

  • Share this link with current interns and/or graduates and their families: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MN6MQDN
  • Follow this link to enter all members of an intern cohort, and their family or guardians, that have given permission: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MB3MZ9P
  • Here's a video you can share that talks about the new Alumni Association and why we're forming it. It features Project SEARCH co-founder, Susie Rutkowski, and Mary Bodle, a graduate of one of the very early Project SEARCH classes way back in 2001. Follow this link to watch the video: https://youtu.be/EsB802t-sOo

Thank you for helping us form the Project SEARCH Alumni Association. Keep an eye out for more information coming soon! If you have any questions, reply to this email, or contact Dennis Cleary at dennis.cleary@cchmc.org
